CIRILO CAMPOS
Cirilo Campos, was inspired by his passion for mari- achi music and the experiences he had as a student learning about mariachi. At the age of 10 he began singing in the school elementary choir and later joined mariachi at Washington Irving Middle School, in San Antonio ISD. As a 6th grader, Campos was unable to join the school mariachi class due to his schedule. A warm heart and Campos' ambition for the art are what kept him focused. Rolando San Miguel, Campos' mariachi teacher, made a commit- ment to work with him on a weekly basis, providing instruction after school in order to catch him up with the rest of the class. This gesture is what drives Campos' teaching approach. Extending the hand and taking the time to help build others around you became a core concept in his practice.
Campos is a professional musician and mariachi educator who has shared the stage with many artist like Aida Cuevas, Christian Castro, Pepe Aguilar, Yolanda del Río, Beatriz Adriana and Al- berto Angel "El Cuervo”. Campos has also taught along side some of the greats, Rigoberto Al- faro, Sergio Caratachea, Pepe Martinez and many others. His passion, hard work and dedica- tion have opened doors of opportunities for him to perform in Switzerland, Chile, Africa and Russia. He has had great success as an educator, maintaining a prestigious mariachi program, providing clinics throughout Texas and continuing the tradition of excellence. In the summer of 2015, Campos founded the San Antonio Mariachi Academy, a small educational business that offers musical instruction with emphasis in Mariachi music.
